Vitex agnus-castus Delta Blues™ (Chaste Tree)

Vitex agnus-castus Delta Blues™, also known as Delta Blues™ chastetree, a large shrub to small tree originally native to the Mediterranean. The Delta Blues™ cultivar is noted as the first intermediate sized variety to be introduced; growing to approximately 2/3 size of the full, straight species chaste tree, Delta Blues™ grows to a manageable size of 8-10' tall and wide, with the same rounded habit and gorgeous blooms of the parent species. As a member of the mint family, Lamiaceae, chastetree is also well-known for its lovely herbal fragrance, present in foliage, stems, and flowers, which makes it deer resistant and adds a lovely aroma to patio plantings or any home landscape where it might be walked near or under.

With the Delta Blues™, it is also apparent that this Vitex agnus-castus variety has a bluer cast to its flowers than that of other varieties, but the same long bloom window, fragrance, and attractiveness to pollinators, butterflies, and even hummingbirds. Not picky about soils or site conditions, so long as it gets full sun exposure and has a fairly well-draining base, Vitex agnus-castus Delta Blues™ is versatile and hardy enough to put up with clay, nutrient poor soils, drought, and heat, with unique seed pods adding additional interest to colder winter weather too. Since it's fast growing, smells great all year long, and lends a lot of attractive flower and foliage to specimen plantings, borders, and dry, rock gardens, Delta Blues™ makes an excellent non-native addition to a huge variety of garden types.
