Another striking ornamental elderberry by Proven Winners, Laced Up® elderberry is an attractive medium-size deciduous specimen shrub or small tree with a compact, columnar habit that produces finely textured, lacy black-purple foliage all spring and summer long; in the late spring to early summer Laced Up® produces profuse lacecap clusters of pink-toned flowers that contrast beautifully with the plant's darker foliage. Growing to a maximum size of only 3-4' wide and 6-10' tall, Sambucus racemosa Laced Up® is the perfect accent piece to add vertical interest and columnar structure throughout the landscape, with flowers providing a great deal of interest to early season pollinators, and attractive black berries acting as a food source for a number of songbird varieties.

Laced Up® elderberry performs best in full to part sun, and tolerates a wide range of soil conditions while requiring very little maintenance over time due to its tight, upright habit and environmental versatility. This elderberry selection makes an excellent choice for a pop of color in border hedges and privacy screens, grows well near foundations, and makes an excellent specimen plant with a lot of ecological appeal.

Note: While proper preparation of elderberry fruits can produce tasty pies, pancakes, jellies, and liqueurs, improperly prepared elderberry can result in intense stomach upset, so care should be taken when planting around children or pets.
