Symphyotrichum oblongifolium (syn. Aster oblongifolius) 'October Skies' is a vigorous, mounding perennial aster cultivar noted for its dwarf growth habit (only reaching 18" tall) and deep, sky-blue to purple flowers. Abundant blooms last from August well into October, providing nectar and seed for pollinators and wildlife into the colder months.

This attractive cultivar of aromatic aster offers a sustainable alternative to fall mums and is an excellent, hardy choice for a variety of garden environments, tolerating drought, erosion, and poor or clay-rich soils. Symphyotrichum oblongifolium 'October Skies' prefers full sun and medium to dry moisture content; this cultivar also works as an excellent groundcover, blocking out weedy invasives, while also being less aggressive than the straight species.
