Coreopsis verticillata 'Zagreb' is a cultivar of threadleaf tickseed, a bushy perennial wildflower commonly found in prairies and open field conditions across North America. The 'Zagreb' cultivar is noted for its compact habit and its profuse bright yellow blooms through the late spring and summer months. 'Zagreb' grows to 1-2' tall and wide, compared to its parent species's height of around three feet, but still makes for an excellent low to medium height wildflower, with its long-lasting blooms appearing in May or June and persisting until August. While flowers will naturally rebloom over this period, occasional dead-heading can promote bushier, better formed blooms over time.
With its attractive, namesake thread-like foliage, 'Zagreb' looks dainty, but has the added benefit of being drought, heat, and poor soil tolerant as well as deer and rabbit resistant thanks to its fragrant foliage. Coreopsis verticillata flowers are attractive to a number of pollinators, including several endangered butterfly species and a number of specialist bees. 'Zagreb' is considered a Mt. Cuba Top Performer, receiving 4.4 out of 5 possible points for its uniform growth habit, striking flowers, and consistency and hardiness across seasons.
