Invincibelle Spirit II® is an excellent cultivar of Hydrangea arborescens in the Invincibelle® series from Proven Winners. Commonly called smooth hydrangea, Hydrangea arborescens Invincibelle Spirit II® is noted for its medium size, rounded structure and its large, pink puffball flower clusters. Growing to 3-4' tall and wide, Invincibelle Spirit II® is considered one of the best selections of pink 'Annabelle'-type hydrangeas, and produces large softball clusters of 4-petaled blush- and rose-pink flowers from mid summer through the fall. Flowers are attractive to a wide variety of pollinators and rebloom throughout the summer season, providing a long-lasting floral show well into the autumn.

Hydrangea arborescens is typically found wild in part-shade areas like woodland slopes and stream banks, and with its showy flowers, this cultivar makes for a great pick in pollinator gardens, forest borders, and specimen plantings, and additionally makes for an excellent seasonal hedge. Though smooth hydrangeas often prefer part-shade, this cultivar will also do well in full sun when provided with consistent moisture, but well-drained soil is key; unlike the parent species, Hydrangea arborescens Invincibelle Spirit II® will decline if planted in perpetually wet soils. Smooth hydrangea is tolerant of deer and rabbit damage as well as a wide variety of soil conditions, and will produce the most showy effects when pruned back in the late winter, since blooms appear on new wood.
