Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Prostrata' (Spreading Plum Yew)
Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Prostrata' is a spreading plum yew cultivar, also known as prostrate plum yew, that is a slow-growing, easy to maintain evergreen shrub in the Yew family. Spreading plum yew can be used as a hedge, border, or mass planting, and works excellently as a specimen plant, an evergreen foundation planting, or in woodland gardens.
Tolerant of heavy shade, heat, and drought, prostrate plum yew tolerates summer heat and humidity better than almost any other yew selection, and with a compact size of only 2-6' tall and wide, it makes for an easily managed addition to any landscape. As an added bonus, Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Prostrata' is deer and rabbit resistant once well-established.
Note: Yew species produce fruits with juicy, pink flesh called an aril, which encloses a seed that is toxic to many mammals. Care should be taken when choosing a planting location, especially in areas with pets or children around.
