'Black Adder' is a hybrid Agastache cultivar, noted for its upright, attractive, densely blooming lavender flowers that emerge from dark purple to black buds. This cultivar's attractive blooms are produced from mid summer until the first frosts of fall, attracting butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. As a hybrid of two different Agastache species, the North American Agastache foeniculum and the Asian Agastache rugosa, 'Black Adder' is less prone to spreading, and its habit is the best of both worlds, maintaining an upright habit that's not too large, and tolerating a variety of conditions, including drier soils and partial shade.

This easy to grow giant hyssop/anise hyssop hybrid typically reaches 2-3' tall and 1-2' wide, though especially profuse flower spikes can bring the plant's total height closer to 4' tall. 'Black Adder' prefers locations with full sun and well drained soil with average moisture, but is tolerant of drought, dry soils, and some shade once established. Like all Agastache species, plant tissues are fragrant when bruised, making them resistant to both rabbit and deer browsing. As a hybrid of a native and non-native species, this cultivar has a ton of pollinator appeal.
