Ilex x 'Magland', also called Oakland™ holly, is a cultivar of hybrid holly noted for its showy, evergreen foliage. Originating as a sport mutation from Ilex x 'Conaf' Oakleaf™ holly, the Oakland™ cultivar was selected in 1994 for its more deeply grooved spiny leaves. Growing to a mature size of 12-20' tall and 8-12' wide, Oakland™ is an excellent choice for evergreen hedges and privacy screens, and has the added benefit of having perfect flowers, meaning that even one plant will flower and set gorgeous, bright red winter berries without the need for a male pollinator.

Like most hollies, 'Magland' excels in medium-moist, slightly acidic, well draining soils, and they grow great in both full sun and part shade. Oakland™ hollies are additionally resistant to deer damage as well as drought, making them an excellent choice for a variety of locations. Oakland™ will also perform best when protected from hot afternoon sun and harsh winter winds, as both may cause unsightly scorch marks on leaves.

Marylanders Plant Trees

From the Maryland Department of Natural Resources:

"We launched Marylanders Plant Trees in 2009 to encourage citizens and organizations to partner with the State to plant new trees. Today, citizens can still take advantage of our coupon program to receive $25 off the purchase of a native tree at 86 participating nurseries across the State. The State cost of $20 per coupon is funded through a settlement from a major power generator for Clean Air Act violations, in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, and Maryland’s participating tree vendors are generously absorbing the remaining $5.

Trees must be planted in the state of Maryland to qualify for $25 off coupon.
Wholesale customers do not qualify.
