Espoma's Organic Garden Lime is the finest grade of pelletized, dolomite limestone available. Garden lime adjusts soil pH so plants are able to make the most of the fertilizer you apply. Its fine pellets spread easily, react quickly, and do not pose the hazards associated with hydrated lime. Like all Espoma Organic products, no sludges or fillers are ever used, and because it’s made in Espoma's state-of-the-art solar powered manufacturing facility, consistency and quality are guaranteed.

Containing a variety of Calcium and Magnesium salts derived from crushed dolomite limestone, garden lime can provide structural and enzymatic benefits to nearby plants and is able to buffer and raise acidic soil pHs to become more neutral or alkaline. As soil pH can greatly affect a plant's ability to absorb different soil nutrients, ensuring that a site's pH matches the required soil pH for garden crops or specific ornamental selections is key to ensuring long-lasting health and plant appearance. For example, soil pH can completely change the appearance of the flowers of bigleaf hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla) with acidic soils resulting in blue flowers and neutral to alkaline soils resulting in pink flowers!

If you believe that your soil pH may be too acidic for the crop or ornamental plants you've selected for your garden, you may want to perform a soil test on your site to confirm that pH is the issue before the addition of garden lime, because too much lime and too high a pH can also negatively affect plant health.

Alternatively, we're happy to help with the search for plants that will naturally work in more acidic spaces, as the easiest way to ensure continued good health over the life of the plant is by choosing plant selections that will work well with the native soils on-site. For a list of plants that may grow better in acidic sites, please check our list of acid-loving plants.
