Penstemon digitalis DAKOTA™ Burgundy is a cultivar of Penstemon digitalis, an upright, clump-forming native perennial with pink to purple and white flowers in the summer, attracting pollinators and working well in cut-flower arrangements. The DAKOTA™ Burgundy cultivar is noted in particular for its intense cold-hardiness and its attractive foliage, which deepens from lush and lime greens in the summer to gorgeous reds and purples in the fall and when new growth is produced in the early spring.
Growing to 12-24" tall, the biggest draw of DAKOTA™ Burgundy is the best of both worlds in terms of Penstemon foliage; while some cultivars start and stay green and others start and stay purple, DAKOTA™ Burgundy foliage starts a beautiful shade of lime green with burgundy red accents and deepens to dark purple with green tints in colder weather. In addition, this cultivar is especially cold-hardy, remaining viable down to -40°C in non-waterlogged soils.
