Stylophorum diphyllum, commonly referred to as celandine or yellow wood poppy, is a native, perennial poppy typically found in wet areas with part to full shade. Growing to only 12-20" tall, celandine poppy produces four-petaled yellow flowers that resemble the blooms of other poppy species.
A very showy pick for any woodland garden, Stylophorum diphyllum contains chemicals that make it distasteful to deer and rabbits, but chipmunks will still pursue the plant's seed pods for food; though some gardeners may want chipmunks, removing seed pods will discourage their presence in the garden, and allow for seed collection to plant later. Celandine poppy is highly tolerant of shade and wet soils, but does not do well in times of drought.
