Fothergilla 'Mount Airy' is a hybrid cultivar of fothergilla, a deciduous shrub with deep blue-green leaves and spectacular fall color, also noted for their showy, white, honey-scented, pincushion flowers that appear before foliage emerges in spring. The 'Mount Air' cultivar is named for the Mt. Airy arboretum in Cincinnati, Ohio where the cultivar was originally discovered; noted for its vigorous growth behavior, medium-large size, and especially showy fall foliage. 'Mount Airy' is a beautiful addition to the landscape in semi-shaded mixed shrub borders, as a background shrub, or as a hedge plant.

Fothergilla 'Mount Airy' thrives in organically rich, slightly acidic, medium-moist, well-drained soils. Growing to 3-6' tall and about as wide, 'Mount Airy' is an attractive choice for a variety of part shade to full sun locations in the landscape, and with pollinator appeal and pleasantly fragrant flowers, it's a great pick for both gardeners and wildlife.
