Viburnum dentatum Chicago Lustre® is a showy arrowwood viburnum cultivar noted for its glossy, lustrous green, foliage. Chicago Lustre® matures at 8-10' wide, a bit larger than the parent species, and produces white flowers and pink to blue fruit typical of the species. The glossy foliage of this attractive cultivar is capable of withstanding the most brutal of heat and drought conditions without any signs of decline, and fruit may occasionally be so profuse that the branches are weighed to the ground, perfect for attracting birds and other wildlife.

Viburnum dentatum performs best in medium-moist loamy soils and in full sun to partial shade, similar conditions to where it is naturally found in woodland and stream bank areas through much of the eastern United States. Although often overlooked due to its large mature size, Chicago Lustre® is an attractive addition to the home garden in a wide range of uses, and can be grown as a specimen or shade tree, as well as an effective ornamental border. Flowers are attractive to pollinators, berries are attractive to birds, bark and leaves are used by caterpillars and other larvae, and large size provides a lot of cover and shelter for small mammals.

Note: To produce fruit, Viburnum dentatum Chicago Lustre® should be planted with at least one other Viburnum that blooms at the same time in order to cross-pollinate.
