June 2024 Newsletter
June 17th-23rd, 2024 is Pollinator Week! We’re celebrating here at the nursery with a week of savings on perennial plants that pollinators love and for a week of informative posts about the less-than-charismatic bugs that make the world go round!
In addition to raising awareness for pollinators on our end, we’re also looking into new ways to support local pollinators at every step of the nursery sales process, and while we at Unity Church Hill Nursery grow our plants without the application of pesticides, herbicides, or fungicides, not all of the plant producers in the US share this sentiment – and while a good chunk of the plants we sell at the nursery are raised in-house, we also source plants from other companies to meet seasonal trends and demands.
This is why, through the summer, we’ll be launching an information campaign via form letters and direct contact with larger scale growers and suppliers to try and get a better grasp of the growing processes used to produce the plants we sell. As a native plant nursery, we want to support native insects, food webs, and ecosystems as best we can, and to do our very best, we’re going to make absolutely certain that the plants we source are as clean, as safe, and as beneficial for our pollinator pals as possible. While an aphid-free plant might produce the most attractive flowers for your pollinator garden, we want to ensure that the processes or chemicals used to keep plants pest free are not harming the butterflies and native bees that make the pollinator garden truly a pollinator garden.
Keep a close eye on our Facebook and Instagram pages for more info on pollinators and pollinator safe plants in the coming weeks!
