Shade Gardening and Summer Sprucing

With temperatures starting to soar at the beginning of July, it is already getting way too hot out to work on some of the sunnier parts of your garden, but if you’re still itching to get out and do some work, there is always a cooler alternative!

We have a wide variety of plants that work for all kinds of shaded areas around the property: from plants that will tolerate full shade and saturated soils to plants that will tolerate those stubborn dry shade areas, where not even grass will grow!

One of our showiest selections right now is the ‘Silver Gem’ prostrate violet, Viola walteri, with beautiful heart-shaped leaves, small, bright purple flowers, and a creeping habit that works great as a groundcover in moist, part-sun to part-shade locations.
If you’re looking to fill in some drier areas, we have tons of beautiful Geraniums, too, and the wild geranium, Geranium maculatum, is an excellent choice for its gorgeous, rose-pink flowers in the spring and eye-catching, unique foliage through the summer. These plants work great as a groundcover too, as plants will spread over time by roots and seed.

And if you’ve already decided you’re done with the summer heat, we’re also happy to let you know we have a 30% off sale on all pottery for the first two weeks of July! So sit back, stay cool, and start planning fall displays or porch plant collections with some gorgeous brand new pots!

Unity Landscape Design/Build

Thoughtfully incorporating water features into your landscape can create a beautiful and relaxing outdoor space that enhances the overall appeal of your garden.

Unity Landscape Design/Build recently completed a landscape design and installation project that included this beautiful Aqua Bella vase fountain. An Aqua Bella vase fountain was chosen because it combines the elegance of a vase with the soothing effects of flowing water. River rocks and plants were incorporated to complement the water feature.

Installing a water feature can be a rewarding project that can be enjoyed for years to come!
