Viburnum tinus, also called laurustinus for its resemblance to laurel plants, is a viburnum species originally native to the Mediterranean. Typically growing to large sizes of 12-20' tall and wide, the 'Spring Bouquet' cultivar (also called 'Compacta') is a much more compact version, growing to only 3-6' tall and wide. Noted for its attractive, fragrant flowers and evergreen foliage, 'Spring Bouquet' laurustinus blooms in the spring and produces a profusion of pink-white blooms in large clusters, attracting a variety of pollinators and butterflies, as well as providing a wonderful floral aroma to the garden or landscape.
Viburnum tinus 'Spring Bouquet' grows great in any average, well-draining soil, and performs well in both full sun and partial shade. While 'Spring Bouquet' is tolerant of deer damage and some occasional drought, care should be taken to shelter it from strong winds and low winter temperatures, as branches may be susceptible to snapping and laurustinus prefers a Mediterranean climate in general. When sheltered, 'Spring Bouquet' produces an excellent bouquet of spring blossoms, adding to its allure as a hedge, screen, or specimen plant. This cultivar's tolerance of a variety of soil conditions and its ornamental value make it an excellent choice for a variety of locations around the home.
