Thuja plicata Spring Grove® is an upright, fast-growing cultivar of western arborvitae, also called western redcedar, a large evergreen tree native to much of the Pacific coastline. Noted for its scaley, fragrant, evergreen foliage, western arborvitae are larger than the eastern species, but Spring Grove® is a relatively compact cultivar that makes for an impressive, pyramidal specimen tree, growing to 20-30' tall and up to 10-12' wide. The Spring Grove® cultivar is more cold tolerant than other western arborvitae, making it an ideal pick for some variety among east coast arbs.

Thuja plicata Spring Grove® performs best in well-draining, organically rich soils in locations with full sun to partial shade. In addition to its obvious aesthetic appeal, Spring Grove® is also a hardy cultivar, with great resistance to deer damage, cold, drought, and wet soils. With its attractive evergreen foliage and its upright structure, Thuja plicata Spring Grove® makes for an excellent large border or privacy screen, an attractive specimen tree, and an interesting addition to woodland gardens.

Marylanders Plant Trees

From the Maryland Department of Natural Resources:

"We launched Marylanders Plant Trees in 2009 to encourage citizens and organizations to partner with the State to plant new trees. Today, citizens can still take advantage of our coupon program to receive $25 off the purchase of a native tree at 86 participating nurseries across the State. The State cost of $20 per coupon is funded through a settlement from a major power generator for Clean Air Act violations, in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, and Maryland’s participating tree vendors are generously absorbing the remaining $5.

Trees must be planted in the state of Maryland to qualify for $25 off coupon.
Wholesale customers do not qualify.
