'Magdalena' is a showy cultivar of Prunella vulgaris, also called self-heal, a low-growing perennial groundcover plant found across almost all of North America. The 'Magdalena' cultivar is noted for its especially showy purple flowers in late spring and summer and its ornate, cut-leaf foliage, which provide an excellent look, especially when planted en masse. Self-heal is deer resistant, and very low-growing to only about 6", but spreads fairly well, forming even clumps about 1' wide.

Occasionally considered a weed when found growing in manicured lawns, this self-heal cultivar actually makes for a great lawn replacement with a ton more pollinator appeal, as its foliage is semi-evergreen, and fairly resistant to trampling, thanks to its small size. On top of semi-evergreen foliage, a tendency to rebloom trhrough the end of summer and fall means that 'Magdalena' will be feeding pollinators and hummingbirds all year round, and look great the entire time. As an added benefit, Prunella vulgaris 'Magdalena' is tolerant of heavy clay soils, not picky about soil consistency, and works well for erosion control too.
