Phlox subulata 'Purple Beauty' is a cultivar of creeping phlox, a low growing, mat-forming, native evergreen perennial known for its showy foliage and flowers. The 'Purple Beauty' cultivar is named for the striking, multi-toned purples of the plant's spring and summer blooms: lilac purple petals turn to deep violet toward the flowers' centers.

Also commonly referred to as moss phlox due to its glossy green moss-like foliage, Phlox subulata 'Purple Beauty' is an excellent ground-cover plant, only growing to 4-6" tall but spreading easily and forming dense carpets up to 1-2' across. 'Purple Beauty' moss phlox also grows well in a wide-variety of soils, provided that the site is well-draining, meaning that it works for edgings and borders as well as container growing, and these plants are even hardy enough to put on full blooms in the middle of scorching hot rock gardens.
