Phlox subulata 'Emerald Blue' is a cultivar of creeping phlox, a low growing, mat-forming, native evergreen perennial known for its flowers. The 'Emerald Blue' cultivar is named for the contrasting colors of the plant's lush green foliage and the delicate flowers produced in the mid to late spring which are lavender-blue in appearance, slightly darker than other 'blue' phloxes like 'Oakington Blue Eyes'.

Also commonly referred to as moss phlox, Phlox subulata 'Emerald Blue' is an excellent ground-cover plant, only growing to 4-6" tall but spreading easily. 'Emerald Blue' moss phlox also grows well in a wide-variety of soils, provided that it's well-draining, meaning that it works for edgings and border as well as container growing, and these plants are even hardy enough to put on full blooms in the middle of scorching hot rock gardens.
