Phlox paniculata 'David' is a cultivar of tall garden phlox, an upright phlox species that blooms from mid to late summer across much of the Eastern United states. The 'David' cultivar is noted for its upright habit, growing up to 3-4' tall in small clumps, as well as its sweetly fragrant flowers in delicate snowy white. Though not considered one of the Top Performers, the 'David' cultivar was highly regarded in the Mt. Cuba Center Phlox trial gardens for its attractive blooms and resistance to powdery mildew.

Blooming from mid summer to early fall atop firm, upright stems, 'David' is sun-loving, though it can also tolerate some light shade; too much shade may cause flower stems to flop over time. A versatile and hardy pick for any garden, Phlox paniculata 'David' is tolerant of clay and black walnut soils and resistant to rabbit and deer damage, though hungry rabbits may eat the plants' flowers if they're lower growing. This cultivar's striking white blooms are lightly fragrant and attract butterflies, pollinators, and hummingbirds, and they also make for great cut flowers.
