Penstemon digitalis 'Husker Red,' or simply 'Husker Red' beardtongue, is a cultivar of foxglove beardtongue, a native, perennial wildflower that grows to between two and three feet tall. The straight species is noted for its colorful, semi-evergreen basal foliage, and 'Husker Red' was selected for its showy white and pink-tinged flowers, which are supported by dark, shiny maroon stems and foliage; foliage is most colorful in the early spring.

'Husker Red' maintains an upright habit all through its growing season, and grows best in medium to dry, well-drained soil and produces the best colors and flowers in full sun. Late spring to early summer blooms are attractive to pollinators and hummingbirds, and if left natural without deadheading, flower spikes will turn to teardrop-shaped seed pods, which attract birds and add additional interest through the fall and winter.
