Osmanthus heterophyllus Party Lights™ is a variegated cultivar of Osmanthus heterophyllus, also referred to as false holly, due to the similarity of its leaves to that of true hollies (genus Ilex). Though other variegated false hollies exist, Party Lights™ is set apart by the hot pink coloration of its new growth, which is a fantastic contrast to the dark greens and creamy whites of the rest of the plant's mature variegation.
Regarded as a dwarf cultivar when compared to other Osmanthus heterophyllus varieties, Party Lights™ grows to a manageable height of four to five feet tall with a spread of approximately three feet. Since the straight species can grow to towering heights of up to 20' tall, this cultivar is a welcome addition to many landscapes with less available space. Additionally, although non-native, Party Lights™ works very well as a small holly substitute that provides more color to the landscape, while maintaining desirable, glossy, evergreen foliage. Unlike holly, Osmanthus heterophyllus Party Lights™ has the added benefit of inconspicuous but very fragrant flowers.
Osmanthus heterophyllus Party Lights™ is not picky about light and grows well in full to part sun as well as full shade, and requires only average, well-draining soil with medium moisture.
