Oenothera lindheimeri 'So White' is a cultivar of wandflower, previously known as Gaura lindheimeri, which is an upright, perennial evening primrose relative. The 'So White' cultivar is named for its bright, pure white blooms that attract attention from gardeners and pollinators alike from late spring well on into the fall.
Noted for its attractive flowers, 'So White' wandflower enjoys a remarkably long bloom season, producing flower panicles that grow to manageable height of only 12-24" tall and spreading roughly as wide. 'So White' is tolerant of many soil conditions and types, is resistant to deer damage and drought, and is also cold-hardy to Zone 5; though this cultivar performs best in full sun and moist, well-drained sandy loams.
Though it works excellently in the garden, all Oenothera also make for great cut flowers with long-lasting blooms indoors and out. Flower stalks may flop over as the season progresses, so spent flowers may be deadheaded and used for display to maintain the plant's structure over the summer.
