Oenothera lindheimeri 'Siskiyou Pink' is a cultivar of wandflower, previously known as Gaura lindheimeri, an upright, perennial evening primrose relative. The 'Siskiyou Pink' cultivar is is similar to 'Whirling Butterfly' in that its loose, ethereal flowers resemble butterflies in flight when the flowers move in the breeze, but this cultivar's blooms are white to pale pink tinged with a nectar guides in striking shade of darker pink; these flowers match wonderfully with fantastic pink and purple tinged early-season foliage.
Oenothera lindheimeri enjoys a long bloom season, producing flowers from late spring or early summer into the beginning of fall on panicles that grow 1-3' high from a roughly 2' wide, clumped base of pink-tinged green foliage. Tolerant of many soil conditions and types, Oenothera lindheimeri performs best in full sun and moist but well-drained sandy loam, though it will tolerate drought and poor soils.
'Siskiyou Pink' blooms are attractive to butterflies, pollinators, and florists alike, as fower spikes make for great additions to cut flower arrangements. Flower stalks may flop over as the season progresses so the occasional trimming back of active or spent blooms may be beneficial to the plant in the long term.
