Heuchera sanguinea 'Firefly' (Coral Bells)

Heuchera sanguinea 'Firefly' is a showy cultivar of western coral bell, characterized by its compact habit and blood-red flowers. Found in fertile, upland areas throughout Arizona, New Mexico, and northern Mexico, Heuchera sanguinea is adaptable, and lends its flower color to a ton of different hybrid coral bells; with the 'Firefly' cultivar, you can have the showy red blooms of the species in a form better suited for the home landscape than wild specimens plucked from the American southwest.

Like other coral bells, Heuchera sanguinea 'Firefly' performs best when planted in well-draining, organically rich soil in full sun to partial shade; with its background in the southwest, 'Firefly' has great tolerance for full sun areas, so long as it's kept consistently moist without overwatering. Perfect for low borders, small beds, and containers, 'Firefly' grows to a consistent size of only only 12-18" tall in small clumps no more than about 2' in diameter. Its attractive basal foliage is great for filling out barren spots, especially in the dappled light underneath established trees, and Heuchera sanguinea is tolerant of drought, heat, and deer and rabbit browsing, making it an excellent addition to Maryland gardens.
