Symphyotrichum laeve (syn. Aster laevis), also called smooth blue aster, is a hardy native perennial wildflower noted for its robust, upright stems and late summer to fall bloom period, with blue to purple flowers that start opening in August and can sometimes extend to November. A prime larval host for key butterfly species, smooth blue aster flowers are also valuable to other pollinators and birds.

Symphyotrichum laeve can grow to between two and four feet tall, and grows best in average soil of medium moisture, and especially in full sun, making smooth blue aster a great addition to open meadows and open woodlands, as well as pollinator gardens and border plantings.
