Polemonium reptans, commonly known as Jacob's Ladder, is an attractive native, perennial wildflower which appears in early spring, growing in 12-18" tall clumps in moist woodland environments. While Jacob's Ladder is well-regarded for its attractive shade-loving nature, the 'Stairway to Heaven' cultivar is sure to be even more of a hit!
Noted for its lighter-colored flowers and its beautiful variegated foliage, 'Stairway to Heaven' produces compound, pinnate leaves margined with white variegation in the early spring; in cooler spring weather and in the fall, variegation takes on a pink hue, adding even greater multi-season interest. From April to Jun, the plant produces five-petaled bell-shaped flowers at the growth tip ranging from white to lavender; flowers are followed by small, tan seed capsules in the summer months.
Although small in stature, 'Stairway to Heaven' provides stunning foliage and showy pastel blooms for a variety of landscapes, and grows well in shaded areas with rich soil, making it perfect for raised flower beds overshadowed by trees or structures, woodland pollinator gardens, or naturalized groundcover in any forested area.
