Fothergilla x intermedia Legend of the Small® is a compact hybrid cultivar of fothergilla, a deciduous shrub with deep blue-green leaves and spectacular fall color, also noted for their unique, fragrant flowers. As a hybrid of Fothergilla major and Fothergilla gardenii, Fothergilla x intermedia can vary greatly in height between cultivars, and Legend of the Small® lives up to its name, growing to a compact size of only 2-2.5' tall with a spread of up to about 4' in a mounded, suckering form.

Fothergilla x intermedia Legend of the Small® is not picky about soil type, only requiring medium moist, well-drained earth to thrive. Early spring flowers resemble rounded pincushions, and are creamy-white, fragrant, and attractive to pollinators. Legend of the Small® makes for an excellent low border planting, looks great planted in masses, and stands out as a specimen all on its own too!
