Rudbeckia triloba 'Prairie Glow' is a cultivar of browneyed Susan, a small or medium-sized perennial wildflower that is closely related to black-eyed Susans. Compared to the black-eyed Susan, bornweyed Susans tend to have a more profuse bloom of smaller flowers, resulting in an excellent display of color in the late summer and fall. Rudbeckia triloba 'Prairie Glow' adds even more appeal to the show with fiery shades of orange and red added to the flower's typical golden yellow hue. Even with the color change to the flowers, 'Prairie Glow' browneyed Susan is a huge butterfly magnet in the garden, and is sure to stun lush green foliage contrasted with bright flowers.
Moderately resistant to both deer and drough, and beneficial for pollinators and birds, 'Prairie Glow' tolerates a wide range of conditions; since Rudbeckia triloba is happy growing in roadside ditches, 'Prairie Glow' is hardy enough to tolerate nutrient-poor or clay-rich soils, though it excels with medium-moist, well-drained loams. While 'Prairie Glow' is an excellent addition to pollinator gardens and wildflower meadows, Rudbeckia triloba is also an excellent choice for naturalized borders and ornamental gardens, since its cut blooms can last quite a while in arrangements, and dead-heading can promot a second bloom as the fall stretches on!
