Epimedium grandiflorum is a dense, rhizomatous, clump-forming, perennial with deciduous to semi-evergreen foliage that typically grows 10-15” tall with a spread to 18-20". The ‘Pierre’s Purple’ cultivar produces large-spurred, lilac purple flowers -- softer in appearance than 'Purple Prince' -- in spring on airy spikes well above the rest of the foliage, adding a lot of aesthetic appeal to shaded locations. Compound, spiny-toothed, medium green leaves with oval leaflets (to 3” long) on wiry stems that form attractive foliage mounds.

Best used for ground cover in dry shady areas, Epimedium grandiflorum can be mass planted in woodland and rock gardens and grows well in the shade under trees. Excellent spring blooms are beneficial and highly attractive to all sorts of bees.
