Carex laxiculmis Bunny Blue™ is a cultivar of spreading sedge, a species of low, creeping sedge native to shady, rich, woodland areas of the eastern US. The Bunny Blue™ cultivar is noted for its especially ornamental silvery, blue-green foliage and its wide, sprawling shape. Bunny Blue™ grows to only 6-14" tall, but up to 12-18" wide thanks to its clumping, heavy foliage; this cultivar also produces fine spiked flower panicles of tiny, white or yellow flowers in late spring and early summer.
Sedges are generally regarded as good ornamental plants due to their ability to stand up to a variety of conditions, and Carex laxiculmis Bunny Blue™ is no exception. This cultivar is deer resistant, tolerant to a wide variety of soil types, grows much better in full shade conditions than many other grasses, and as a slow spreading species, grows well in small spaces, containers, borders, and even in rain gardens. With its evergreen foliage, Bunny Blue™ makes a striking addition of silvery blue to a variety of home landscape locations all year round!
