Heuchera x 'Rio' is a hybrid coral bell cultivar noted for its vibrant orangey red foliage, which it maintains through several seasons alongside all of the other features of typical coral bells that growers love. Shade-loving, low maintenance, and producing beautiful spikes of bell-shaped flowers from early spring well into mid summer, 'Rio' is a great low-growing addition to any shaded area, and works excellently as an underplanting.
Heuchera typically grow to under 12" tall, with flower spikes rising slightly above this height, and are commonly ignored by browsing deer. This cultivar's white and pink-tinged blooms are attractive to butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators, and the natural mounding behavior of 'Rio' means they will grow happily in groups or when planted next to other shade-loving perennials; 'Rio' additionally has pretty good tolerance of full-sun, meaning it can be used in a variety of locations.
Although 'Rio' is a hybrid, all ornamental Heuchera species are native to North America.
