Baptisia x Decadence® 'Blueberry Sundae' (False Indigo)

Baptisia x Decadence® 'Blueberry Sundae' is a blue-flowering hybrid false indigo noted for its vibrant, long-lasting flowers. Hybridized from two US native false indigos, Baptisia australis and Baptisia australis var. minor, the 'Blueberry Sundae' cultivar has all of the same pollinator appeal as its parent species with attractive, dark purple-blue flowers that bring to mind the deep blueberry hues of a fruit sundae that bloom from late spring to early summer.

Growing to around 3' tall and wide when planted in average to dry soils and full sun to partial shade, this cultivar's brilliant blue-purple flowers give way to persistent, attractive, dark seed pods in late summer which last through the fall and winter, and which serve as an important food source for migrating birds. Once established, 'Blueberry Sundae' is drought and salt tolerant and tolerates poor and acidic soils, and its versatility and hardiness make it a great choice for meadows, pollinator gardens, or flower beds.
