Aster novae-angliae (syn. Symphyotrichum novae-angliae) 'Purple Dome' is a showy, compact aster variety that produces huge blooms of profuse purple daisy-like flowers from the late summer to early fall. While all New England asters produce purple blooms the 'Purple Dome' cultivar's flowers are a striking shade of rich royal purple, and the cultivar grows to only around 18" tall and wide in small clumps. 'Purple Dome' New England aster flowers best in full sun, but can also be grown in light or partial shade, and grows well in a variety of garden spaces.

New England asters are typically pollinator magnets, and 'Purple Dome' is no different, acting as an important late-season nectar source to bees and butterflies, among other pollinators. And with its striking violet flowers, 'Purple Dome' is a great choice not just for beneficial insects, but gardeners too! As a plus, these flowers can be left to seed to feed the birds, and plants are deer resistant, so flowers should stay intact for much of their bloom window.
