Aesculus parviflora, also called bottlebrush buckeye, is a multi-stemmed shrub or small understory tree with outstanding summer appeal. Producing compound frond of tropical looking leaves in the early spring, bottlebrush buckeye starts putting on its real show in early months of summer, attracting butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators with huge, white bottlebrush spikes of flowers.
Typically growing to 6-12′ tall and wide in a variety of light conditions from full sun to full shade and a wide range of soil conditions, Aesculus parviflora has long-lasting foliage and makes for an attractive seasonal screen or naturalized understory planting. In autumn, deep green foliage turns to shades of lime green and rusty yellow before leaves begin to fall, adding some multi-season interest as well.
Note: Although it's a very popular choice for pollinators, care should be taken with choosing a good planting location for bottlebrush buckeye, as plant parts and seeds are toxic to humans and other mammals.
