Amsonia hubrichtii 'Butterscotch' is a dependable and colorful cultivar of Amsonia hubrichtii, also called Hubricht's Bluestar, a herbaceous perennial that produces profuse powder-blue flowers in mid spring that attract hummingbirds, butterflies, and a variety of other pollinators. 'Butterscotch' grows to between two and three feet tall, and can be differentiated from the straight species by its redder stems, as well as its vibrant yellow fall color.
Named for its red stems and bright yellow leaves, this cultivar's fall colors add a strikingly rich butterscotch note to the off-season landscape, extending its ornamental season well into the fall. With excellent fall color and striking blue spring flowers, 'Butterscotch' can be planted en masse for even better visual effects almost all year long. With the natural drought tolerance of Amsonia hubrichtii, 'Butterscotch' makes an excellent addition to almost anywhere in the home landscape provided it's given enough sunshine!
