Lagerstroemia x Colorama™ Scarlet is an attractive, all-new cultivar of crape myrtle, a multi-trunked ornamental tree found in gardens the world over. Noted for its gorgeous, long-lasting deep red color and its vigorous, fast-growing behavior, the Colorama™ Scarlet variety was patented in 2018 and has already become one of the most well-regarded red crape myrtles on the market. Growing to a consistent size of about 15-20' tall and a slightly more narrow 8-12' wide, Colorama™ Scarlet is a smaller selection among many crape myrtles, perfect for specimen plantings in locations without too much space.

Lagerstroemia x Colorama™ Scarlet prefers average, well-drained soils in full sun conditions, though it will also tolerate partial shade, and this variety makes for an extremely colorful specimen tree selection throughout the year; the Colorama™ Scarlet variety is also noted for its better than average drought tolerance, maintaining good leaf and flower appearance through hot, dry summers. When you add together this tree's pollinator appeal, attractiveness to birds, and the variety's striking striking red-orange fall foliage and excising cinnamon-brown bark, you end up with a small specimen tree that is simply gorgeous all year round.

Marylanders Plant Trees

From the Maryland Department of Natural Resources:

"We launched Marylanders Plant Trees in 2009 to encourage citizens and organizations to partner with the State to plant new trees. Today, citizens can still take advantage of our coupon program to receive $25 off the purchase of a native tree at 86 participating nurseries across the State. The State cost of $20 per coupon is funded through a settlement from a major power generator for Clean Air Act violations, in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General, and Maryland’s participating tree vendors are generously absorbing the remaining $5.

Trees must be planted in the state of Maryland to qualify for $25 off coupon.
Wholesale customers do not qualify.
