Originally introduced by famed Baptisia breeders, Creek Hill Nursery out of Pennsylvania, the 'Aurora' cultivar is a hybrid false indigo that originated as a chance seedling at the nursery. Alongside other showy hybrid Baptisia cultivars, 'Aurora' is well-regarded for its attractive, color-changing flower spikes, which open in a subtle butter yellow color before fading to a dusky, dusty purple color, contrasting well against the bright blues, yellows, and whites of many other cultivars.

In the early spring, foliage emerges in dense stems of lime green foliage, before maturing to dark green through the summer; later in the spring, 'Aurora' produces its showy flower spikes, adding color and pollinator appeal to the spring landscape. While plants typically average around 3.5-4' tall and wide and resemble shrubs more than they do typical wildflowers, Baptisia x 'Aurora' makes for an excellent specimen planting on its own, but works great for pollinator gardens, borders, and also tolerates drought, poor soils, and acidic conditions, making it suitable for a number of other garden locations.
