Spigelia marilandica, commonly known as Indian pink and pinkroot, is a medium low upright perennial wildflower typically found in part-shade woodland environments. Growing to only 12-28" tall, Indian pink produces showy, somewhat trumpet-shaped red and yellow flowers that are especially attractive to hummingbirds. Considered somewhat endangered in parts of its native range, Spigelia marilandica is an excellent addition to the home garden, and adds a ton of visual appeal to the landscape as well as providing food to the animals that rely on its declining wild populations.

Indian pink prefers organically rich soil with medium moisture, though it can tolerate wetter conditions, and does best in part-shade locations, but does not do well in competition with other plants. Pinkroot's flowers put on their best show when withering blooms are removed regularly, and works well for cut flower arrangements.
