A compact but striking cultivar of Echinacea purpurea, 'PowWow Wild Berry' is a sun-loving perennial wildflower that comes with bold, showy, wild-berry purple flowers with inflexed, drooping petals, giving blooms a pronounced appearance when center cones protrude far from the rest of the flower. Growing to a compact size of only 12-30" tall with a spread of only 12-18", 'PowWow Wild Berry' is the perfect perennial for small beds, containers, and tucked away pollinator gardens, but is also showy and versatile enough to stand on its own in full size wildflower meadows and forest edge environments.

As a participant in the Mt. Cuba Center trial gardens, 'PowWow Wild Berry' scored only a 3.1 out of 5 stars, with points deducted for apparent disease susceptibility. In our own demo gardens and greenhouses at the nursery, we have not seen any indicator of this kind of behavior, and Echinacea purpurea 'PowWow Wild Berry' has proven to be a consistent and beautiful workhorse among the nativars we stock. Coneflowers like 'PowWow Wild Berry' are excellent for cut flowers arrangements, as blooms last for several weeks at a time on or off the plant, and cutting flowers regularly can prolong the plant's bloom window. When flower heads are left intact, they can last through the late fall and winter seasons, providing a food source for a variety of songbirds. 'PowWow Wild Berry' flowers attract butterflies, pollinators, and hummingbirds, and are additionally deer resistant and tolerant of drought, heat, and humidity.
