Solidago rugosa (Rough Goldenrod) Unity Grown

Solidago rugosa, commonly called rough or wrinkleleaf goldenrod, is a medium sized species of goldenrod, which blooms from September to October. The rough-leaved goldenrod is characterized by its long, drooping panicles of bright yellow flowers, and is set apart from other goldenrods by its dark green, deeply-veined, wrinkly leaves. Growing to 2-6' tall depending on light and soil, Solidago rugosa is a hardy goldenrod that works well in a variety of locations.

Native to much of the eastern US, Solidago rugosa is a valuable species for all kinds of pollinators like butterflies and bumblebees, and thrives in wetter environments than many other goldenrod species, making it a great addition to both rain and pollinator gardens. With its large size, rough goldenrod is also suitable for use in seasonal borders or naturalizing at the edges of meadows or forested areas. Though Solidago rugosa prefers full sun it can also tolerate part shade, and it is resistant to poor soils, heavy clay, and deer browsing, making it an ideal plant for areas where more tender selections may not thrive.
