Heliopsis helianthoides 'Tuscan Sun' is a cultivar of false sunflower, an upright perennial wildflower similar in appearance and habit to true sunflowers (Genus: Helianthus). The 'Tuscan Sun' cultivar differs from other Heliopsis helianthoides varieties with its dwarf stature, growing to only 18-36" tall and 2' wide as opposed to the much larger size of 3-5' tall and 3' width of the straight species; with the 'Tuscan Sun' cultivar's slightly darker than usualy, orange-tinged flowers, this cultivar is a compact, showy hit through the entire summer.
False sunflowers are not at all picky about soil type, and will thrive in average to medium-dry, well-drained soil, and especially in full sun, though they will also tolerate some drought and some light shade. Wide tolerance of growing conditions and a smaller growth habit makes Heliopsis helianthoides 'Tuscan Sun' well suited to an even wider variety of garden types than the straight species, and as an added bonus, ecologically beneficial flowers also make for great additions to cut flower arrangements,.
