Chrysogonum virginianum 'Pierre' is a cultivar of goldenstar, a low-growing woodland groundcover plant native to also called "green and gold," for its striking early spring colors. Evergreen through mild winters, the 'Pierre' cultivar is noted for its flat, wide-spreading growth habit, growing to a mature height of only 4-6” tall and up to 12” wide, as well as its extended bloom window. While other goldenstar cultivars can reach 6-12” easily and while  flowers can typically begin to fade as early as late spring, ‘Pierre’ can rebloom all the way through early autumn and maintains a ground-hugging habit year-round!

Chrysogonum virginianum ‘Pierre’ prefers partial to full shade, though it can also tolerate full sun, and moist, well-draining soil. When you add in this cultivar’s vibrant colors to its hardiness and deer resistance, you get a low-growing choice perfect for year round interest in the home landscape. Due to its spreading nature, short height, steppability, and its long-lived flowers and foliage, ‘Pierre’ is an excellent choice for weed-blocking groundcover, lining pathways, or filling shaded beds.
