Rudbeckia fulgida var. speciosa, also called showy black-eyed Susan and occasionally referred to as Rudbeckia fulgida subsp. sullivantii, is a subspecies or variety of black-eyed Susan noted for its profuse set of vibrant golden-orange flowers with chocolate centers. Colony forming by nature, Rudbeckia fulgida var. speciosa grows up to three feet tall and spreads over time to form large masses by way of rhizomatic roots.

Found in nature in a variety of habitats, showy black-eyed Susan is an excellent perennial wildflower with a ton of uses in the home landscape, working well in naturalized masses in prairies, pollinator gardens or garden borders. Showy black-eyed Susan prefers fertile, well-drained soils and grows best in full sun, though it will also tolerate part-shade. This black-eyed Susan's flowers and foliage are also attractive to a number of critters, pulling in wide varieties of pollinators and birds as well as mammals who will eat the plants' foliage. Rudbeckia fulgida var. speciosa blooms from the mid-summer into the fall, and will add an excellent splash of golden color to an environment.
