Heuchera americana 'Dale's Strain' is a native coral bell cultivar of coral bell or alumroot, noted for the splashy, silvery-blue highlights present on the plant's leaves. Found in the wild in fertile, rocky woodland areas and along shaded cliffs and bluffs, Heuchera americana is an excellent plant for locations with rich soil and partial shade. Like all alumroot, 'Dale's Strain' is low-growing, mounding, and produces spikes of small, white flowers which are attractive to pollinators and butterflies in the spring and early summer. Growing to only

Unlike other coral bells, however, the best coloration from Heuchera americana 'Dale's Strain' appears to occur in planting locations with a lot of sun, with some of the best results coming from mostly sun/dappled shade locations with light exposure throughout the morning and mid-day. This cultivar's leaves are perhaps its most striking element, and the profuse, silvery-blue hues present in sunnier spots eventually turn to persistent reds and oranges as the spring and summer turns to fall and winter. Ornamental foliage is complimented well by the plants' late spring to summer blooms, adding additional visual and pollinator appeal to anywhere around the home landscape.
