Eutrochium dubium is a relatively compact species of Joe Pye weed (previously Eupatorium dubium) noted for its compact stature and attractive pink-purple flowers through the mid to late summer. Growing to 3-6' tall rather than the 7-12' of some Joe Pye varieties, Eutrochium dubium adds the ecological benefits and pollinator appeal of larger Eutrochium to more compact areas of the garden, making the ornamental and biological appeal more accessible to a number of home landscapes.

Typically found in the wild near wetlands and floodplains throughout the east coast and mid-Atlantic, Eutrochium dubium grows best in moist, fertile soils and good salt tolerance due to its adaptations to coastal areas. Fast growing and versatile in terms of soil type, this Joe Pye is also tolerant of deer damage and black walnut soils. Large corymb clusters of small, pink-purple flowers are attractive to a great number of pollinators, including bees, beetles, butterflies, and hummingbirds, and a light fragrance makes Eutrochium dubium an excellent addition to pollinator gardens as well as it does to flower beds closer to the home or patio.
