Cornus sericea 'Baileyi' is an especially showy cultivar of redtwig dogwood, a deciduous, suckering shrub native to most of North America. Named for the attractive red color of its bare branches, 'Baileyi' puts on a brilliant display of red in the winter landscape with its large, vibrant red stems. Adding to its excellent display is the 'Baileyi' cultivar's size, which can range from 6-10' tall and wide, meaning a whole lot of red for the fall and winter landscapes. And if you're looking for spring and summer appeal too, Cornus sericea 'Baileyi' is no slouch there either: bright green foliage through the spring and summer contrasts well against the plant's vibrant red bark, and clusters of fragrant white flowers in spring eventually turn to showy white or blue berries later in the summer, attracting a variety of pollinators, birds, and other wildlife.

Cornus sericea is easy to grow and tolerant of poor soils, wet areas, and even the coldest climates, though it performs best in full sun to partial shade and medium-wet soils. Great for massing, this selection has good red-purple fall color, but should be trimmed yearly to remove old growth as new growth has the best winter color; if naturalizing, new suckering growth will have the redder tones, but will only add to the plants attractively dense behavior. 'Baileyi' makes for an excellent hedge, screen or mass planting, and plants grow great in wet areas and wetland restoration projects.
