Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus' (Purple Coneflower) Unity Grown

An award-winning cultivar of Echinacea purpurea, 'Magnus' is a sun-loving perennial that comes with bold, giant flowers on towering, upright stems and rosy, purple-pink petals that are held flat without drooping like other coneflowers. Noted as an early and consistent bloomer withlong- lasting blooms from late spring to late summer or fall, 'Magnus' is the perfect standout coneflower for borders, prairies, pollinator gardens, and even forest edge environments. Recipient of the 1998 Perennial Plant Association's Plant of the Year award, 'Magnus' was also a participant in the Mt. Cuba Center trial gardens for Mid-Atlantic echinacea, where it scored a 3.9 out of 5 and even outperformed its own 'improved' cultivar, 'Magnus Superior.'

'Magnus' is excellent for cut flowers, with its showy blooms and strongly upright stems, and regularly cutting flower heads can prolong its bloom window; when flower heads are left intact, they can last through the late fall and winter seasons and provide a food source for a variety of songbirds. Echinacea purpurea 'Magnus' blooms attract butterflies, pollinators, and hummingbirds, and are additionally deer resistant and tolerant of drought, heat, and humidity. Echinacea purpurea, 'Magnus' typically grows to 30-36" tall, but can reach a height of up to 4' with a relatively narrow spread, thriving in full sun and a variety of medium to dry soils.
