A beautiful, Italian heirloom zucchini variety with a lot of flavor, 'Costata Romanesco' zucchinis are noted for their attractive gray-green striped and speckled skin, delicious, nutty taste, and firm texture. Zucchini is an excellent summer vegetable and is commonly grilled, sauteed, and is one of the main stars in the attractive French dish ratatouille. Zucchini blossoms can also be eaten, and are commonly stuffed - be sure to save some of the female flowers on the plant to actually produce fruit!
For 'Costata Romanesco' zucchinis, the recommended spacing is 18-24" apart in rows set about 6' away from other plants; plants are semi-vining and capable of sprawling, and large leaves may shade out other plants placed too closely. Zucchinis are best harvested when around 6-8" long.
